Lavrio

Lavrio (or Lavrion) is the third-largest passenger port in Athens and is located on the southeast coast of Attica, about 60km from the center of Athens.

Due to its location, the port of Lavrio is convenient for traveling to the Cyclades and the islands of the northeast Aegean. The port of Lavrio is the main getaway to Kea (Tzia) and Kythnos and the main connection between Athens and northern Greece.

Since antiquity Lavrio has been a center of mining for the area of Attica (Athens). The port is a large commercial one but also has a much more picturesque area for leisure boats and fishing boats. If you have time before or after your trip, it is worth taking a walk in the town to admire the monuments, historical sites as well as buildings of neoclassical architecture.
